Self to bring Illinois staff to Lawrence
Dammit. I knew Self was probably going to leave, but it sucks when it’s actually happening. Apparently, he’s taking his entire coaching staff with him too. Where does that leave our Illinois club? I feel bad as a fan; I’d feel worse, I think, if I was a player and my mentors/coaches all left me for the next shiney thing that came along. And by shiney, I mean one and a half million dollars a year (maybe 1.2, but up from his previous .9M salary,) at one of the top 6 bball programs in the country (according to Andy Katz.) Katz gave Illinois some props at putting us in the top 10, but everyone knows “just another team in the big ten” is not as good as the top one in the big twelve. That irks me too, even if it’s true.
I hope we’ll get someone as good/classy/smart as Bill Self. But right now, I’m angry at being picked 2nd.
Oh, and sorry for the lack of postings — I’ll try to more verbose here soon.
