Blogging from bed

General April 29th, 2003

Okay, so I haven’t said much in a while. Sorry. I guess I got bored of blogging. I’d like to think of it as being so caught up and excited in life that I don’t get around to journalling it. Yeah, that’s the ticket. So, to bring you up to speed here’s the one setence thought rundown.

Cooked a great turkey dinner yesterday. Played 18 holes the day before that. Won’t eat Pizza Hut again for a while. Family Guy DVDs are great. Matrix 2 in about three weeks. Triumph Forks. Spend as much time at the Chancellor as I do at work. Blogging from bed with my Visor and keyboard. Have to justify needing a TabletPC for work. Blogging from bed is probably not a good enough justification. Three weeks left in the semester. Must rethink departmental backup goals and make sure we’re in line with them. Managing students and student projects is difficult.

Part of the Being A Sysadmin paper talks about spending a few days a year reinventing something you do everyday. I think it’s time I take a more serious look at Linux and newer browsers/terminals/screen. fvwm2 and tcsh are great, but they’re dated and I feel behind the curve. Too bad my hardware is mostly sucky. I could upgrade… a brand new system for under $1k, and damn good one too, but I should probably spend my summer time doing non-computer related things. Like playing golf. I need a new golf bag. And more clubs. And most importantly, lessons.

I wish I had all my CDs ripped to disk and available from home or work so I could listen to whatever I wanted where-ever I was.

I feel like doing a jigsaw puzzle. NCSA is doing a presentation tomorrow night on the 10 year birthday of Mosaic. I should really start using Firebird/Phoenix. Netscape 1.1N was still my favorite browser.

TiVo still rocks my world. Thursday night the power went out (must buy UPSes) half way through ER. It rebooted, came back online, realized it should be taping, and started back up again. Ha! Find a VCR that would do that. We went through some of the guide tonight, deleted old SPs of shows that have come and gone, and added a few new ones.

I talked about SSI and Vircom today; made me think of the good ol’ days. And by goold ol’ I mean days when I didn’t even know how much I didn’t know. Some days I miss those days.

Need to find a place to live next year, or another roommate for this place, or something. It’s getting to be about that time.

I hope to tackle one giant thing on my worklist this week. Not sure yet what that’s going to be. I know that sometimes a dozen small things are bigger than one big thing.

Football tailgate stuff is coming along nicely. Must call athletics tomorrow to see if we qualify for a hell of a deal. As Mo said, less money, more beer.

Damn it would take forever to scribble this out in Grafitti. I’ll have to sync this tomorrow morning, since I don’t have my laptop at home. Maybe I do need a TabletPC. It’s midnight, I think I’ll go to sleep now.

Happy Andrew?

Morning note, after all that I either forgot to set my alarm or in my tired state this morning turned it off instead of snoozing. Luckily, I was awake enough to hear my pager buzzing across the room a little after 9, and it got me up. I was having the oddest dream at the time. (Now I can’t remember it.)
