Some of you noticed I finally got comments, at least in a simple form, active on the blog yesterday. We’ll see how that goes.

I’m planning on buying a house, and have been halfheartedly searching over the last week. Today, I drove by 6 homes on my way to work, and wasn’t really impressed with any of them. The ones I did somewhat like were already off the market or pending sale. That’s scary — I usually take a long time to deliberate on large purchases. It seems if I try to do that here, I’ll lose the house I might like. But I’m not inclined to even look at a house that doesn’t “do it for me” from the outside, although I probably should at least for the experience of house hunting. I think my mom and brother are going to come up this weekend and help me shop around. Weeee.

You are entering the prime time for a seller’s market. late summer-late winter are the prime buyer’s markets. everyone wants to move while their kids are out of school…

    “What about the children!!”

Bah. I had the advantage that my current landlord is also my realtor/agent, so there’s some flexibility if we find things. My lease is up June 30th, and I doubt I would have more than a month of grace. Joel’s not going to sign a 6 month lease, I don’t think. So, if I don’t buy now, I’m stuck for another year. I could look at buying around January/February next year, when the market is better, but that’s six months of dual housing payments I can’t make.

Buying a house during the winter months stinks. There are not many houses on the market. This is prime time for house hunting.

Let me also plug my company as we do loans. http://www.rlca.com. Email me and I can hook you up with someone here. I’m very proud of my company and am happy to plug them, but if you find a better deal, go with it. Even if you don’t have a house in mind right now, you should get your credit pulled and checked, which we can do. Ok, i’m done. Contact me if you’re interested.

I heard that homes are on the market for an average of 21 days here in Champaign (maybe from you), surprised me, mostly because that’s not a lot of time to be able to think about it.
