Friday Five: Friends
General May 7th, 2004
In honor of the TV show Friends ending after a decade of shows, and Friday Five calling it quits, here’s my very own Friday Five meme:
1. What TV shows do you watch every week?
ALIAS, National Geographic Explorer, Las Vegas, the Daily Show, Significant Others, Family Guy, Futurama, 24, Scrubs, The West Wing, the O.C., Friends, ER, Joan of Arcadia, Saturday Night Live, and a few others I’m sure I’m missing. God bless you, TiVo.
2. What do you remember your parents watching?
That one’s harder. My mom liked cooking shows, so I remember Julia Child. And Johnny Carson, although I was rarely awake then. I remember watching Moonlighting as a child (Bruce Willis’s character was named David - I dug that.)
3. Which shows had the most impact on you growing up?
Knight Rider is probably the single reason I dig computers so much. That show rocked. I was also a big Star Trek TNG fan. I also dig fast thinking trivia shows, like Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. (This is in addition to all the wholesome childrens programming there was, like Mr. Rogers, Sesame Street, Reading Rainbow, Thundercats, Smurfs, etc.) I also remember watching TGIF night shows with my brother. (I think my mom was dating and we had babysitters a lot on Friday nights.)
4. What shows final episodes do you still recall?
Friends, because it just happened last night. The one that really sticks out in my mind is Carson’s last night on the Tonight Show, sitting on his stool, and wishing everyone a truly heartfelt goodnight, blinking back tears. I remember Family Ties last show, and the last TNG and DS9, but those don’t really count. The final MASH is great too, with the rocks saying goodbye. Powerful stuff. (I was more choked up when Tasha died on TNG than the TNG final episode.)
5. If you could bring back one cancelled TV show, which would it be?
Duh. Knight Rider, and possibly DS9 because it was so good near the end.
So there’s my Friday Five. Feel free to write your answers in the comments below, or leave a link back to your blog with your own entries. (Trackbacks are not done yet.)
