I remember when we instituted that policy and made those changes to the page when I was working there. There was a deliberate intention to make it awful, unsightly, and obnoxious, theory being that it would encourage people to go take care of it right away. I wonder how effective it’s been?
Aaron: It actually start a few days ago, it just took things long to finally convince me to post it. I’ve gotten emails too, but this is so much more effective. The compounding problem is that there’s no single-sign-on (or persistent sign-on) for web services on campus, so I see this page a lot. Usually two or three times in a row. And the extra mouse click (actually ‘cont ENTER) is really annoying.
Mel: Oddly, I haven’t changed mine yet so maybe it’s not that effective. (Those who know my netid password picking scheme know why.) But I’ll bet someone somewheres has metrics on it.
I’ll add that I’ve been using my original uiuc password ever since I received it as an incoming freshman in 1997. I wish I had a way to know how many times in my life I’ve typed that now…
Wooo! Damn The Man and his stupid password change policies!
About A blog. You know, a weblog. A place for the owner to write. Like singing at the top of your lungs when you’re the only one in the car — except, you’re reading this.
That’s not too bad. Our network natzi starts the ‘your password will expire in’ message at 21 days.

It’s really ugly to, but unfortunately I’ve seen worse login pages..
I typically wait until the last day to change mine, just out of spite.
We have 90-day password reset cycles at my job now, and I wait until the last day to reset because it’s just do damned frequent.
Kenn’s, you could resort to the Maui Invitational.
